We know you’re cool & not like everyone else. You’re you! Toughees believes it’s time to express yourself, express the talents that make you, you. It’s your time to shine! Bangene, because there’s no time like the present!

Toughees gives you the confidence to follow your dreams and the stepping stone to reach them. By entering the Toughees Bangene competition, we are giving you the chance to enroll into The President’s Award.

This is an opportunity to be mentored by inspirational Award Leaders and hone your skills for a minimum of 6 months. After this you will receive a Bronze certificate, valued at more than R2000, sponsored by Toughees and signed by President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Duke of Edinburgh.

HOW TO ENTER:

1. Write a short story in the form below telling us about your passion, the skill you want to develop and why you should be enrolled in The President’s Award.
2. Written stories to be no longer than 200 words.
3. Bangene!

ABOUT THE PRESIDENT’S AWARD

The President’s Award was introduced to South Africa in 1983 and relaunched in 1994 by President Nelson Mandela who was passionate about education. Together with the Duke of Edinburgh this programme aims to help children and young adults become well-rounded individuals.

Since its inception, The President’s Award has become the most successful youth empowerment programme offering young people a range of opportunities to help them unlock their potential. It encourages young people to learn new skills, get physically active, volunteer within their communities and discover a sense of adventure outside the classroom. They are able to develop their own bespoke programmes that they choose from a wide variety of different activities.

Young people who participate in The President’s Award learn to be responsible and driven individuals who ambitiously follow their dreams.

WHAT THE PROGRAMME INCLUDES

Winners of the Toughees Bangene competition will be enrolled into the Bronze certificate programme, which is the initial stage of the President Award. There are four courses that participants need to complete before obtaining a certificate.

They are:

Service: At least 24 hours of community development over 3 months

Skills: Select an activity you’re passionate about, e.g. photography, debating and show regular effort and improvement over 3 months.

Physical Recreation: Select an activity you’re passionate about, e.g. soccer, dancing and show regular effort and improvement over 3 months.

Adventurous Journey: Undertake an adventure journey for 2 days with planned expeditions per day.

Once you have recorded your activities and compiled them in a Portfolio of Evidence within 6 months, you will be awarded with a Bronze President’s Award, to the value of R2535.
